Shelly Hastert

First & Second Grade Teacher

I have been through many seasons in my life and I have been a teacher through most of them. My teaching career was first in southeast San Jose, California, where I taught Kindergarten through 8th grade and Community College. After thirteen years, my husband and I began a new season having two children and moving to a small town in central California. I became dedicated to homeschooling our children and working with other homeschool families.

During both of these seasons, Waldorf education was knocking at my door. One of my parents in San Jose shared wonderful Waldorf lessons with me and my class. I attended conferences at the Sacramento Waldorf school and celebrations at the Sierra Waldorf school. I loved the importance of nature, art, and music and used as much of this approach with my own homeschooling as well as introducing it to homeschool families.

When we decided to send our children to KU, I discovered Prairie Moon. My husband and I moved to the wonderful town of Lawrence this year to reunite our family, beginning a third season. This summer I was given the opportunity to virtually attend a Waldorf Renewal Training and I look forward to learning more about Waldorf education. I am so excited to work at Prairie Moon and share the love of learning with your children.
