Why To Go To May Fest?

Ten reasons to mark your calendar for May Fest.

1. It's a party: Aw, spring! The sun is out, the grass is green, and you can finally go outside without spending 15 minutes searching for mittens—this calls for celebration! After months of hibernation, the advent of warm weather provides the perfect reason for our community to come together and reconnect on the beautiful Kansas prairie.

2. Lady Spring will be in attendance. Wearing a crown of sunshine and a cloak of flowers, this magical maid chases away Queen Winter once and for all. Huzzah!

3. The Maypole: The origins of the maypole are obscure, but for centuries, cultures around the world have erected a large pole on May first, adorned it with ribbons and garlands, and then danced around it to express their joy for the coming summer. Watch the Prairie Moon students perform a Maypole dance, and then join with the community for round two.

4. Flower crowns: A garland of flowers around the head symbolizes the new growth that is so welcome at the end of a long winter. Making and/or wearing one is an activity that is sure to prompt smiles, giggles and many photo opportunities.

5. The Uplift Coffee Truck: Because even Lady Spring cannot subsist on sunshine alone, our fellow North Lawrencians from Uplift will be on hand, selling piping hot coffee and delicious treats.

6. Bubbles, face-painting and fun galore: Your little spring sprites won't just be entertained, they'll be amazed.

7. BYOK: Bring your own kite. Brother Wind is a frequent guest at our prairie festivals, and combined with our acres of open fields, he makes for some epic kite flying.

8. Come one, come all: Spring Fest is open to the entire community, so bring friends, family and anyone else who wants to get outside and celebrate.

9. Festivals are a huge part of what makes Waldorf so special: Throughout the year, Waldorf festivals mark the changing of seasons and the passage of time. As anyone with little ones knows, the years can fly by, and festivals are an important way for us to come together and acknowledge this as we honor the past, anticipate the future and enjoy the present.

10. A celebration of spring is a celebration of life: "May my soul bloom in love for all existence."—Rudolf Steiner
