What is the Parent Community
in
Waldorf schools are known to have strong parent body communities. Generally, the parents are responsible for the festival life of the school. In addition, parents are asked to serve on committees, the school's board of trustees, help out in the classroom, and support the school through various fundraisers, as tuition alone does not cover the operating budget of most Waldorf schools.
In a recent article about parental involvement in Waldorf schools, it is noted that "parents with expertise in law, banking, grant writing, computers, publications, art, finance, marketing, merchandising, management, community building, mediation, construction, maintenance, and other skills can strengthen the school on a practical level. Parents have wordly contacts with influential people who might also be interested in Waldorf Education. Parents can also contribute to the cultural life of the school as specialty teachers in their particular field of expertise as tutors, as leaders and members of study groups, and so on".
