Annual Giving Campaign Q & A
WHAT IS THE ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN?
The Annual Giving Campaign is a direct appeal to board members, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, faculty, staff and friends for financial contributions in support of the school’s operating budget.
The major components of the operating budget are programs, facilities, equipment, salaries and benefits, new classroom renovation, playground improvements and tuition assistance.
WHY IS THE ANNUAL CAMPAIGN NECESSARY?
Tuition and fees cover about 85% of the projected operating expenses of the school for 2007-2008, and the purpose of the Annual Campaign is to help bridge this gap.
WHY NOT JUST RAISE TUITION?
No private, independent school could charge the full cost of educating students without pricing itself out of the market. That is why nearly every independent, non-profit school has an Annual Campaign. Additionally, tuition is a non-tax-deductible contracted contribution to the school, while gifts to the Annual Campaign are fully tax-deductible.
WHAT MAKES PRAIRIE MOON SCHOOL A NON-PROFIT, INDEPENDENT SCHOOL?
The school designs our own programs and curriculum and operates without financial support from public agencies. The school is self-governed by the Board and Faculty. Unlike public schools, which are funded by tax dollars, independent schools rely solely upon tuition revenues and philanthropic gifts to meet their operating and capital expenses.

ARE THERE OTHER FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES AT PRAIRIE MOON BESIDES THE ANNUAL CAMPAIGN?
Yes. In addition to asking everyone in the school to participate in the Annual Campaign, there are several events and ongoing projects each year that raise funds, such as the Autumn Faire, annual garage sale, SCRIPS program and bookstore.
