Enrollment Process

Thank you for your interest in our enrollment and tuition.
Our enrollment process is as follows:
Prairie Moon School accepts applications at all times of the year. Students may begin or transfer in at any time, depending on availability of space coupled with needs of the class.
When you contact the school, we will send you a packet of information about Waldorf education and about Prairie Moon School, including a schedule of program and activities for visitors.
We prefer the following enrollment procedure:
Attend a Parent Information Event. Please call the school to find out about our upcoming open houses where you can visit the classroom, get information about scheduling and philosophy and ask questions. If you are applying for a school year that is already in session, please call the school to arrange a tour. In addition, please be sure to read through this website to obtain additional information about Waldorf education.
Application
When the decision to apply is made, send your Application Form, along with the $35 non-refundable Application Fee, and the Child’s History Form. School records will be obtained for students applying for the grades program.
Admissions Decisions
The decision to accept a child into the class is made by the teaching staff, in consultation with the Board of Trustees. These decisions are based on an evaluation of the child-teacher visit, review of the child's student record, parent-teacher discussions, and the configuration and needs of the existing class. If your family accepts the invitation you will receive a Tuition Contract from the school.
Child-Teacher Visit
Preschool/Kindergarten: After the application deadline we will invite children who have applied to come in for a few hours on a Saturday morning. During this time, the teacher will have an activity for children, which will include a story, circle, and an activity.
Grades 1-3, 5-6: During the summer months, the grades teachers will meet with the families and conduct a home visit. If a student applies after the academic session has begun in August 2007, the student will spend one day in the classroom for which they are applying. The parent will not attend this session. In both instances, the teacher will then meet with parents to discuss the feasibility of the child's admission.
Contract
A non-refundable $250 tuition deposit is due with the signing of the contract. The tuition deposit will be applied to the May 2008 tuition payment. Upon receipt of the contract we will hold a place for your child in the class.
Wait Group
If a place is not immediately available, you may wish to be placed in our wait group. You will receive notification of available spaces in Kindergarten or the grades as soon as they are available.
Record Release
Parents of elementary students will be asked to sign a record release form. This authorizes your child's present school to send us a copy of school records. Records will be reviewed as part of the admission process. Parents are responsible for obtaining these records from the school themselves and providing them to Prairie Moon School.
